Are you one of those people who don’t know what the breadcrumb on top of the AX screen is for?
Do you already execute a job to disable the content pane on startup?

Then you might feel totally nostalgic when you see the Axapta 3 menu appearing after you run the following job in AX 2009.

This is an article I wanted to write for some time now, and it’s about two things: Dynamics AX, and Google.
The goal here is to try to know what lives in the Dynamics AX world.

A nice feature Google search has is autocomplete. It comes in handy when you have to write hard to write words, or when you just want to search faster.

It’s also a nice way to discover what people are querying for about a certain subject, for example Dynamics AX. Here’s a list of item Google suggests when you type “Dynamics AX ” in the search box.

dynamics ax 2009
dynamics ax jobs
dynamics ax training
dynamics ax certification
dynamics ax modules
dynamics ax blog
dynamics ax workflow
dynamics ax 4.0
dynamics ax aif
dynamics ax demo

I don’t want to make an opinion piece out of this, so I’ll just break this up in groups without further comment.

General: 2009, 4.0, modules & demo
Jobs and Certification: training, certification & jobs
Functionality: workflow & AIF
Community: Blog

While you don’t know the context of these queries, it’s nice to know what people are interested in.
Try it for a few subjects, and you might find out some interesting things.

While reading through Wikipedia, I came across something called a quine, and here is its definition:

In computing, a quine is a computer program which produces a copy of its own source code as its only output.

I was inspired by this and decided to make a quine in X++, the programing language of Microsoft Dynamics AX.

static void quine(Args _args)
{
#AOT;
print TreeNode::findNode(strfmt(#JobPath,"quine")).AOTgetSource();
pause;
}

It’s a job that finds it’s own tree node in the AOT, gets the source of that node and prints it. I originally wrote it all on one line, because I like the look of that better, but I didn’t do that here for readability.

Now I’m not entirely sure if this qualifies as a quine, because a quine can have no input, and using the method AOTgetSource could be seen as cheating. But anyway, it reproduces itself, it’s short, and it made me happy.
